Email notifications arrive at Basic, the same tier as real-time file monitoring, and that pairing is deliberate rather than a packaging accident. A monitor that detects a change in seconds and tells nobody has converted an incident into a log entry.

The value of narrowing detection from a day to a moment is entirely conditional on somebody being told in that moment. Detection speed and delivery speed multiply; they do not add. Fast detection with slow delivery is slow.

So the two ship together, and neither is sold as an upgrade to the other.

An alert that says only that something happened forces a login before you can judge whether it mattered, which in practice means it gets read later. So the message carries the finding: what was detected, where, its severity, and what it means.

That matters most at the times alerts actually arrive, which is rarely during working hours. The realistic decision at eleven at night is whether this needs action now or can wait until morning, and that decision should be possible from a phone.

Severity is doing the real work there. A critical backdoor and a low-severity informational finding should not read the same, because a person who cannot tell them apart at a glance will eventually treat both as noise.

Email is the channel most likely to be filtered into irrelevance, and it gets there through volume. The tools that survive are the ones that stay quiet unless something is worth saying.

Configure by severity, and be willing to route routine informational events somewhere you review rather than somewhere that interrupts. A quiet mailbox that occasionally produces something urgent is far more valuable than a full one you have stopped opening.
